In the city where I grew up, Bhopal, something happened that changed the way I see life. I went there for a friend's wedding, but even in the familiar places, something was missing. I wasn't feeling excited, and work stress was piling up. Little did I know that a life-changing lesson was just around the corner.
A Normal Morning ShatteredOn a Wednesday morning in May 2023, at 6:26 am, I was heading to the airport with my dad driving. Suddenly, another car crashed into ours. The impact was so strong; our car spun around, and everything inside broke. Glass was everywhere, and it felt like the world had turned upside down.
At Vyapam chouraha, BhopalAfter the CrashAfter the crash, my family got messages about it, but my phone was thrown away during the accident. Loved ones were calling, worried, but I couldn't answer. It was a scary moment, but when I opened my eyes, I was still alive. My dad and wife were hurt, but we were okay. With the car smoking, I knew we had to get out fast.
A Stranger's HelpI couldn't find my phone, and then a stranger on a scooter appeared. He told me to put my dad on his scooter, and he took us to the hospital. It was a relief because we didn't know if the car would catch fire. My wife stayed at the accident site, and the stranger was our savior.
Photo by Deva DarshanA Heartfelt ThanksI thanked the man who saved us and offered help with his scooter. He shared a heartbreaking story - he had lost his father in a similar accident, and no one helped. His eyes welled up with tears as he told me how he rushed his father to the hospital but couldn't save him. I thanked him, overwhelmed by his kindness, and he asked for my number to check on my father. I gave it to him.
Learning from the Hard TimesIn the hospital, my dad got better, but I started feeling pain on my side. I ignored it and focused on helping my family. Later, back in Bengaluru, the pain got worse. I went to the doctor and found out I had a tear in my knee. The doctor said it might heal on its own, but I might need surgery.
Appreciating Life MoreThis whole experience taught me to appreciate life more. We never know what could happen in just a few seconds. There's a song that says, "Cherish every moment; tomorrow might not come" (हर पल यहाँ जी भर जियो जो है समाँ कल हो न हो). So now, I try to enjoy every moment, be thankful for the good and the bad, and not worry about things I can't control.

This story is about finding strength in tough times, being grateful, and realizing that life is full of unexpected turns. It's a reminder to appreciate each breath, each moment, and live with gratitude.
